Valéry Renault

Cauldron Records was born from a meeting and a project. Of French origin, Valéry Renault moved to Lomé, Togo in West Africa in 2008. Amongst other activities, he started an open-air bar which became a site for music and dance performances. The bar was called Le Chaudron which is the French for “The Cauldron”.

This is where he met Ribouem, a multi-instrumentalist Jazz musician from Cameroon. Le Chaudron became a setting for several of Ribouem’s performances. The friendship that grew between the two also created a vision for further musical collaboration and larger projects.

The distance gave rise to a new dimension of the collaboration between himself and Ribouem. Apart from being a record producer, Valéry also became his booking agent. Ribouem went on tour and performed at international music festivals in Africa. In his part, Valéry met local and international musicians in New York.
